Overtaking like a pro

Overtaking is the most important part of any kind of racing as your position on the podium matters. There are innumerable opportunities on the track to surpass your opponent. Wherever you might be, overtaking needs to be smooth and efficient.

Pre-prep work
During any session on the track, check for places on the track where you might be able to pass on. Judge a path for your kart in a situation you might pass and make sure to practice it a few times. By doing so, you already have a plan as to how you’ll be overtaking anybody in front of you in the slightest time possible.

The Basics:
There are two ways by which you are most likely to pass someone on the track; out-braking or out-accelerating your opponent.

         Out-braking into a corner:
The title is practically self explanatory. You should make sure to out-brake your opponent into the corner so as to have the advantage on the inside. You will have a tighter line and will be able to pull away with your speed coming out of the corner.

Important: Avoid “diving” into the corner to avoid an accident. As a general rule, make sure that the person you plan to overtake has seen you and knows not to turn until you overtake them. If you are not at least level with the other kart drivers before they start turning in, back off. Other wise, you may cause an accident and can be disqualified.
.       Out-Accelerating out of the corner:
This method of overtaking can be the best way of overtaking as it uses a wider line going into the corner so that you use the throttle before your opponent. The objective is to head straight forward on the throttle as your opponent is just coming out of the corner.
